Online couples therapy in New Jersey

The argument may start with money, who handled bedtime, or how often to see family. Then one of you presses harder to be heard, the other pulls away, and the issue is still there the next day. We’ll work on what happens between you in those moments and practice a different way through them.

I’m Dipesh Patel, MSW, LCSW. I provide online couples therapy and marriage counseling throughout New Jersey, with a structured approach informed by the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

When your relationship needs more room

A practical approach to communication and connection

I draw on Level 3 Gottman Method training and training in Emotionally Focused Therapy. We map the interaction you keep getting pulled into, what each of you is trying to communicate, and where a different response could change the direction of the conversation.

In session, we may rehearse how to raise a concern, pause before a disagreement escalates, or repair after one of you says something that lands badly. Between sessions, you’ll have a specific skill to practice in the conversations that brought you here.

What to expect when we begin

The assessment typically starts with a joint intake, followed by a meeting with each partner and a feedback session together. That gives us a fuller picture of how the relationship works, where you’re getting stuck, and whether couples therapy is a fit.

At feedback, we agree on what you want to work toward and how you’ll recognize progress. We return to those goals and talk about what’s changing in daily life.

Your identities and experiences belong in the room

I offer LGBTQ+ affirming couples therapy and work with South Asian, first-generation, immigrant, intercultural, and interfaith couples. We can talk directly about how identity, family obligations, and cultural expectations shape your relationship.

That might mean deciding how to share money with extended family, working out boundaries with in-laws, or figuring out which traditions you want to carry forward as parents.
